The West Bengal State Eligibility Test or WB SET is conducted by West Bengal College Service Commission or WBCSC to determine the eligibility of aspirants for Assistant Professor in Universities and Colleges of West Bengal. The WBCSC holds the test in two sessions for Paper one and Paper two. Paper I is common for all applicants, and Paper II is conducted for 33 subjects. Candidates require to obtain minimum qualifying marks in both the SET papers to become eligible for the Assistant Professor post. Aspirants who qualify for the exam will be governed by the state’s rules and regulations for recruiting Assistant Professor.
WB SET Eligibility Criteria
WBCSC has declared certain eligibility criteria for the WB SET examination. BYJU’s Exam Prep has shared the basic WB SET eligibility criteria below:
Age Limit For WE SET: There is not any upper age limit to apply for the examination.
Educational qualification For WB SET:
- Applicants who have secured at least 55 percent marks in their Master’s Degree and belong to any UGC accredited. Universities/Institutions are eligible for the test.
- The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to NLC or non-creamy layer/ Scheduled Caste(SC)/Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Candidates/Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ persons with disability(PWD) category candidates who have secured at least 50 percent marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for the test.
- Applicants who have appeared for the Master’s degree (final year) exam and whose result is still awaited or applicants whose qualifying tests have been delayed may also apply for the test. Moreover, such applicants shall be considered eligible for Assistant Professor only after they have passed their Master’s Degree Or the equivalent exam with at least 55 percent marks [50 percent marks in case of OBC falling in Non -creamy layer/EWS/ST/SC/PWD (persons with disability) category candidates].
- Candidates from the transgender category will enjoy the same relaxation in fee and qualifying criteria for SET as applicable to SC/ST/PWD categories.
- Candidates who have passed the UGC NET/CSIR JRF exam before 1989 don’t need to appear for WB SET.
Exemptions for WB SET 2022
SET/NET/SLET is the minimum eligibility criteria for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Colleges / Universities / Institutions. In this regard, exemption from SET/NET/SLET will be governed by UGC amendments and regulations reported in the Gazette of India from time to time.
- SLET/NET/SET will remain the minimum eligibility recruitment & appointment of Assistant Professors in Colleges/Universities/Institutions.
- However, those who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF exam before 1989 are also exempted from NET/SET.
- The aspirants who have cleared the WB State Eligibility Test (WB SET) held before 01 June 2002 would be eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India.
- Suppose a candidate has qualified for the SET held from 01 June 2002 onwards. In that case, they will be eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the Universities/Colleges located in the state from where they have cleared their SET.
WB SET Selection Process

Step 1: Fill out WB SET Application Form
At first, Candidates need to fill up the WB SET application form on the official website of the examination. After filling out the application form, contenders need to save the confirmation page.
Step 2: Download WB SET Admit Card
Aspirants need to download the WB SET admit card and carry it to the exam center on the examination day. WB SET admit card includes the candidate’s name, roll number, photograph, signature, and test center details.
Step 3: Appear for WB SET Exam
On the test day, candidates need to reach the centers as per the reporting time. WB SET exam comprises 150 nos multiple choice objective type questions in both Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Step 4: WB SET Result
Aspirants can check the WB SET results by visiting the official website. Aspirants need to enter their login details on the link activated by the commission to check the result.
